Our team consists of many experts and educators in their respective field. You would be hard pressed to find a team with more international experience.

Michael Dmitrik (Director, Phys. Ed teacher at TFS – Canada’s International School):

Basketball has been Michael’s passion since childhood. Currently, he teaches Physical Education at TFS – Canada’s International School. He is a certified NCCP coach with over 10 years of coaching experience at the Under 12, 14,16 and 20 levels in the C.I.S.A.A. league. He also coaches teams competing in Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Ontario Basketball Association (OBA). He has worked closely with current and former NBA players and coaches. He is also the founder of Hoop House Basketball. Michael has a B.A. of International Studies from York University and a B.A. of Education from Ottawa University. His goal is to advance sport in Canada and to develop athletes’ skills at the grassroots level. Michael speaks fluently in English, French and Russian.

Jonel Destre (Director of West Campus, Phys. Ed teacher at TFS – Canada’s International School):

Jonel is a graduate of Laurentian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and Health.  His first love of sports began during the high school years, and since then he has worked in summer camps starting at the tender age of 17. He has since acquired more than ten years of experience in teaching and coaching young ones. Currently holding the position of Athletic coordinator and Physical Education teacher at TFS – Canada’s International School (West campus) in Mississauga, Jonel is invested in the health of children and youth. His wish is to engage them through sports in order to teach them the value of health and increase their potential in sports and confidence in life. Jonel is fluent in English, French, Spanish and Creole.

Sophie Pothion (Director of French Camp, Gr. 1 teacher at TFS – Canada’s International School):

Sophie Pothion’s journey began in Dijon, capital city of the Burgundy region in Eastern France, one of the country’s principal wine-producing areas. She always wanted to get a taste of English culture; so she ventured to Reading University in the UK where she received a Bachelor’s in Ancient Civilizations and French Literature and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education. Sophie first worked for few years as a High School teacher in Southampton, England. Then she crossed again the English Channel to France’s culinary capital of Lyon where she taught at a Bilingual IB school for seven years. Six years ago, she seized the opportunity to relocate her family to Canada. Sophie taught Grade 2 at the Junior school and now teaches Grade 1 at the P’tite École where she is currently a Senior teacher and Grade 1 Curriculum Coordinator. Sophie organized a Back-to-School Camp for Grade 1 going to Grade 2 this summer at TFS. Due to the success of the camp she is very excited about offering similar programs. Sophie is fluent in French and English.

Geneviève Cholette (Director of Theatre):

Geneviève Cholette is a professional musical theatre performer and choreographer known all across French Ontario for her art as well as for the workshops she has given to over 5000 young artists. While enjoying a booming career in the arts in Canada and in France, she has been teaching for almost 20 years having opened her own studio (Studio Unio) when she was only 18 years old. In 2010-2011, she had the great honour to have been asked to become the official spokesperson for the FTAMS (Theatre Festival for French Ontario High Schools). Since 2006, she has launched the teen acting studio for the world renowned Cater Thor Studios, in Toronto, she continues to coach teens and children for professional film, TV and theatre auditions and has received several grants for her French Musical Theatre projects through the Ontario Arts Council.  After giving workshops in dozens of French, English and French Immersion schools in Ontario and Quebec, teaching Drama and Musical Theatre at the Toronto French School for the past two years, she has been asked to teach her Musical Theatre workshops by the Ministry of Education for the ‘’Moniteurs de langue’’. Geneviève is fluent in French and English.

Michel Bouchard (Director of Arts):

Michel Bouchard studied Fine Arts and History of Arts in Paris where he held several art shows. After working as a silk screener, a graphic artist and an art director in Toronto, he decided to go back to his first love, teaching art. Traveling to public and private schools, he teaches in French and English woodworking, visual art, comics, architecture and clay modelling to children 5-12 and hosts several art camps for children. Michel now runs his own bilingual art space, La Ruche -The Hive.

Hernan Olaya (Basketball Coach/Instructor):

Hernan has an extensive background in player development and has experience in managing basketball camps and clinics worldwide, he runs a program in Toronto, Canada where he develops players for all levels of competition. Hernan is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Oksana Dmitrik (Director of Music, Professional violinist):

Oksana was born in Kiev, Ukraine, where she began to study Violin at age of six. She holds a Master’s degree of Violin in Performance and Teaching from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Kiev. After graduation, she became a member of the Kiev Chamber Orchestra. In 1989 the family immigrated to Canada. Since then, Oksana has performed with many Canadian groups such as Quebec Symphony, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Toronto Symphony among others and participates in many summer Festivals and Music Camps. She has also shared the stage with many pop artists like Rodger Hodgson, Frank Sinatra Jr., Smokey Robinson and Wayne Newton just to mention a few. She also teaches violin, both privately and at TFS – Canada’s International School . Oksana is a loving mother of two boys. Her husband Sergei is a violinist with the TSO (Toronto Symphony Orchestra). Oksana is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian, English and French.

Yann Breka (Soccer Coach/Instructor, Former Semi-Pro Soccer Player for FC Tence):

Yann brings a wealth of soccer experience and knowledge to our programs. He started playing soccer for Paris Alesia, in the 14th district of Paris. In the following years, he progressed in the sport and signed with FC Tence where he was 2x best scorer in the championship. Campers are always delighted to have Yann as their coach, not only because he is a magician with the ball at his feet, but also because of his passion for the sport and genuine regard for the development of each of his athletes. Yann is fluent in French and English.
